Prairie Oasis Park is a municipal run campground located 20 minutes south of Hanna, AB on Highway 36. The Park is nestled in the northeast corner of the Sheerness Power Plant Cooling Reservoir. The warm waters of the reservoir make it very popular with swimmers and boaters alike. The well-treed campground with its beautiful beach and waterfront sits in distinct contrast to the wide-open Special Areas Prairies that surround it. The Park has a well stocked little camp store and serves up delicious take out meals and lots of ice-cream seven days a week through July and August. The family atmosphere, spacious camping sites and refreshing waters make the campground a true ‘oasis on the prairies.’
Prairie Oasis Park is administered by the Special Areas Board, and is open from May 1st to October 1st. The Park has approximately 30 % of its 73 sites on a reservation system and the remainder are on a self-registration first come basis. For amenities, Prairie has a 20-slip marina, two playgrounds, firewood for sale, a concession, three shower buildings and a small camper laundry mat. The Special Areas Board’s Policy #14-02 restricts the use of the Park by Work Crews.
